OFS

The Office for Students (OfS) is a government-regulated organization in England responsible for overseeing and regulating higher education providers. It was established in 2018 to replace the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Office for Fair Access (OFFA). The primary role of the Office for Students is to ensure that the higher education system in England operates effectively and in the best interests of students. The OFS collects many sets of data from universities and other academic institutions.

We helped the OFS develop a data quality checking system that can automate many of the data quality checks they were previously carrying out semi-manually. This enabled staff to focus on what matters and took away some of the day-to-day workload. The system developed was extensible and so could be configured without any re-coding of the system. Technologies utilised included JSON, Databricks, Python and SQL server.
